The city of Toronto and mayor David Milktoast go on and on about the big bad car and pollution but as usual they continue to demonstrate their stupidity in dealing with it. The city is about to spend 1.3 billion dollars on new street cars, not a new subway but streetcars the biggest cause of traffic congestion. Vehicles sit behind the cars idling getting 0 mpg. We also have a non idling law, but the city is full of drive thru donut shops and people too lazy to get out of their car even when it’s quicker than a drive thru. We also have bike lanes that are causing more congestion since car lanes are reduced. We have a bike line outside our office that is one way against a one way traffic street?? Where is the vision, new subway lines, including one to the airport. Thank you I’ll take the car with all its frustrations.

The other night I drove past a propane re fueling lot and out of the corner of my eye sat this old rusted gem just waiting for my lens. Frail and looking for a grave someone has saved the old beater giving it life in it’s senior years. A 1939 GMC Truck. Wow. A seventy year old truck still intact looking like it was plucked from the deck of the Titanic. What a relic. During my shoot an old timer pulled up to refuel some barbecue tanks and as our eyes met I said ” real beauty eh ?” He shook his head. I asked if he might know the year it was made and mentioned that there was a 1955 Saskatchewan plate attached. He shook his head again and said ” that’s probably why there’s still a body on the chassis. I remember this truck. It was a piece of shit then and it’s a piece of shit now. To ride in a truck like that for a period of time was painful. The horse was better. I don’t know why people put up such a fuss for this old junk. I never did.” With that he walked over to his late 2000 year model Dodge extended cab pick-up (with topper on bed) opened his door, looked back and said… “you know they weren’t the good ol’ days !!” His door slammed, eight cylinders powered up a few hundred horses and as the tires crunched the gravel lot his truck crept away.

Good morning Dad
Came across the invoice for that surging problem. It was a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with a 3.8L and 90124km. The customer noticed "buck or surge when accelerating up a hill". It test drove well except when it was cold. Then, when under medium load, the transmission would slip, engage, then slip a little more. There were four trouble codes describing transmission slip and lean run/miss fire. The first thing to come to mind was some issue with the filter we had reciently installed with a trans flush. Maybe it had come loose and the pump was drawing air. It checked out ok. We also checked the line pressure in the trans. The PCM controls the pressure by pulsing a control valve in the trans. This valve wears and sticks causing erratic pressure - which results in odd trans behavior. The line pressure appeared good moving smoothly between 65 psi in neutral to 130 in gear under load. Max pressure was a little low. Up till now we thought the engine miss would be damaged wires and old plugs due to the mileage and age and hadn't given it much attention. We noticed the max engine load, as calculated by the PCM, was low. This is a number determined by a comparison of engine rpm and mass air flow. Then it made sense. The low engine load number was affecting the transmission line pressure keeping it lower than needed. The real engine power was higher than the PCM thought, overpowering the clutches in the transmission. So we checked the MAF sensor and found it corroded. A dirty air filter, age, or a sensor with a tired cleaning cycle (burns the dirt off the element after shut down) is a common problem. Cleaning it helped and a new one worked even better. Now max line pressure was 180 psi and the engine made more power.
This was another reminder to treat the engine and transmission as a closely related unit when diagnosing.

Why Does My Car Air Conditioner Smell
If you're searching for answers to "why does my car air conditioner smell?", you've come to the right place. Read the article if your car air conditioner smells for any odd reason.
Strange smells coming from the air conditioner can bring hundreds of questions in our minds.
Car Air Conditioner Problems
The issue of "why does my car air conditioner smell" crops up when the fan is on and you can instantly notice that musty or mildew odor. It's definitely different from the new-car smell and can really leave you frustrated. And when you get that weird smell coming out of the vents, you can't really let it go unchecked. It is a sure shot evidence to something going wrong with the system. Often times, it is due to growth of fungus in your car's air conditioning system. The worst part is that when this smell spreads throughout the car's interior and gets absorbed in the seats and carpeting. When a car air conditioner smells bad, it needs to be understood properly and get to the root cause.
Car Air Conditioner Smells Musty - Causes
When the air conditioning system is on, water condensation develops and settles in the car's evaporator core housing. Your car's evaporator core housing is like an old refrigerator coil. The housing is surrounded with a black case and once water starts to drip from the evaporator due to condensation, it settles inside it. Water collects there and that's when a car air conditioner smells bad.
Car Air Conditioner Smells Musty - Remedy
The first thing you can do is take your car to any auto repair shop that can help you get rid of the musky odor. There are also kits available at these shops which you can purchase to do the same. You can use pressurized foam cans that can be sprayed inside the evaporator core housing. It cleans the inside of the housing and the core completely. To use the foam cans, you'll have to drill a hole inside the housing. Once the foam has completed its job, it will dissolve and leak out of the hole you made.
For thoroughly getting rid of that smell, get your car to any professional auto technician. They use a sonic system which creates fog inside the car. The air conditioning system absorbs this fog which distributes itself all around the system and kills the bacteria. Along with the air conditioning system, even the carpeting and seats absorb this fog. In the end, you won't have the same question, "why does my car air conditioner smell" because your car's interior will start smelling fresh and clean.
Car Air Conditioner Smells Musty - Prevention
Since condensation is the main culprit here, you need to assure that it doesn't reoccur and the condensation is dried out. On the dashboard where your car's air conditioning controls are, you will find a button that allows "closed" or "open" circulation of the vents. Use the controls if your car has the button, and for those cars that don't have one, if you keep "maximum" air conditioning, the circulation will be closed and for "normal" air conditioning, the circulation will be open. And since our aim is to dry out the water condensation, let's take a look at fixing car air conditioning.
At least 4 - 5 minutes before you turn off the car's engine, keep the air conditioner's button at "open". This will provide a good ventilation to the entire car and system.
After turning the car's engine off, you can leave the button on "open" mode. Again, this will leave the car ventilated throughout the night/day and won't form that musky smell again.
In the morning, turn the system off before you start the engine. This way the air compressor won't activate itself while the car is turned on.
Once you are ready to turn the air conditioner back on, let it stay at "open" mode as often and as much as possible while you drive. Trust me, if you follow these instructions, you won't ask the question, "why does my car air conditioner smell".
Due to various contaminants like dust, smog, and smoke, we try to keep the car's air conditioning ventilation at "closed". Although that's a good thing, but never letting the outside air enter the system will make your car air conditioner smell. After following the steps mentioned above, if you are unable to get rid of the smell, and still wonder, "why does my car air conditioner smell", you should take your car to an auto repair shop for a thorough inspection. Perhaps they can find another cause that's making the smell to return.

Quite a variety of new car makes and models appearing on the auto purchase market recently. It keeps Rick busy familiarizing himself and staff with necessary checks and auto repairs.
New tools have to be purchased...etc.
However, Paragon Motors on Baron Road in Kelowna, BC, make it a point to keep up to date.
Some times we find it difficult when the Kelowna Auto Repair parts suppliers are slow in stocking the replacement parts for all these new vehicles. Even the dealerships have problems keeping parts in their stores.
As far as the difficulty in diagnosing and repairing vehicles, talent and experience comes into play.
Repairing Automobiles, Trucks and all types of Cars is something that is inherent in one's makeup or it is necessary to find another profession.
In fact, there are very few proficient professionals in the auto repair business.
Mind you, there are many retiring professionals in so many occupations, people who have spent their lives contributing to the task of helping the average citizen. It is becoming very difficult to replace these folks.
Today's auto manufactures have really gone overboard creating cars that run on electronic commands and controls. This is creating a challenge for the auto repair industry. We are having to attract diagnostic minded individuals who have a leaning to the car electronic profession. Not that easy as their is a huge demand for this type of individual.
It is one thing to "play" with the auto electronic devices available but it is quite another task to find those talented enough to be able to efficiently repair automobiles that are loaded with these challenging units.
Not to worry when you deal with auto repair facilities like Paragon Motors in Kelowna, BC
